Federal Crimes
Charges filed in federal court are of great concern. Note only does the federal criminal justice system has very stiff penalties, and not only is the Federal court system much more formal, but the Federal Prosecutors (Assistant United States Attorney) do not have the same discovery obligations as state Prosecutors. Put another way, the federal process moves more quickly than the State's, the penalties are often more severe, and the Defendant in Federal court is not entitled to know as much about the evidence against him/her as he/she would in state court. Therefore, not all law firms are capable of properly defending criminal cases in federal court, or have the experience to present a compelling defense case in this tough venue. Resisting an Officer
When law enforcement is engaged in an arrest, right or wrong, and you resist them in any way, they can file added charges of resisting an officer, which can add time to penalties if you are unlucky enough to be convicted. Way too often, these charges are unfounded and were charged simply because the Defendant somehow managed to anger the arresting officer. Often such charges are filed in an attempt to shield the arresting officer for his/her illegal beating up of a Defendant. This sort of police conduct should not be permitted. Mait Law has the experience and know-how to handle all types of Resisting charges. Read more about resisting an officer
